The emotions felt by a person under stressful situations may be those of worry or agitation, and if not dealt with properly, may lead to a more serious bout of depression.

People who are in this depressive state of mind find it hard to regain their feeling of normal happiness. Usually moods vary depending on the daily circumstances of a person’s life. You may awake in a great mood, receive one phone call , and your whole outlook on the day changes. Coping with these mood swings becomes a serious problem.

There are many contributing factors in depression and serious mood swings. These can include lifestyle issues, general health and genetics to name but a few. The signs of depression can be very clear as people’s moods can change almost in an instant, and those who were once outgoing and happy can seem introverted and silent. Depression can also make a person feel exhausted and tired, leaving them with little motivation. The things which used to give them pleasure now have no interest to them whatsoever.

It is likely depression if you, or someone you know, is suffering from these symptoms. There are many people that feel depression and they are embarrassed to ask for the help that they need, so you might have to ask the person yourself. It can be extremely hard to escape a serious bout of depression and consulting a psychiatrist or therapist could be the only way of receiving the necessary help required. A doctor can give a prescription that will help control the depression symptoms, but just remember that they just treat those symptoms, never the cause or causes of the depression.

If one wants to find a permanent cure to the depression, it is abolutely imperative that the root cause, or causes, are brought out. Only by working on getting rid of them will a permanent cure be found. As stated above, medication cannot work on getting rid of the causes of the depression, it will only help to treat the symptoms.

People who may be suffering from depression or manic disorders actually exhibit or show each and every kind of symptom of depression that doctors will tell you that depressed people have. Sometimes it’s actually quite easy to overlook such symptoms and not be able to help yourself or others who are suffering from depression for that matter.

It is quite amazing just how many symptoms of depression there are and as a sufferer will exhibit all of them it should really be easy to spot. However, it isn’t necessary for them to suffer from each and every one before you actually help them get diagnosed and treated for this illness.

An early indication that a person may be suffering from depression is a continual sadness for what appears to be no apparent reason and a disinterest in life generally. This lack of interest and feeling sorry for themselves is probably the best example for this symptom of depression.

Having nothing of interest to look forward too is also a sure sign that something is wrong especially when there is no reason for the situation. You will also find they have negative feelings and thoughts on every subject and cannot see the good in anything, expecting everything to go wrong.

Depressed individuals do not value themselves at all, are lethargic and suffer from terrible guilt. How often have you heard a depressed person saying there is nothing to look forward to and known that they must be suffering from depression? The signs of depression are quite clear and visible to an outsider but the person suffering from depression and low self-worth probably cannot see their situation improving.

Many depressed people cannot even raise the enthusiasm to continue with their favorite pastimes and hobbies. Once this situation has occurred then it really does mean that something serious is happening.

Depressed individuals often complain that they have no energy to do anything although most of this can be attributed to their condition and may not be a real condition. Choosing to prefer just to mope around and not eating properly or get enough sleep, a depressed person may well be on their way not just to mental illness but poor physical health as well.

Poor concentration on what is going on around them is another symptom of depression that is immediately apparent. Not only this but people suffering with symptoms of depression find it difficult to remember recent events and their attention span is limited.

We all know how difficult it is to concentrate when we feel tired so erratic sleep patterns may exacerbate the problems they have with concentration and memory. It is also worth paying attention to a person who starts having problems with either eating too much or too little. Often when the situation has been allowed to continue, the person will have a morbid interest in death and dying but the worse aspect of depression is the effect it has on the sufferer’s health with headaches, digestive disorders and other pains being quite normal.
